What to do if your Mercedes Benz doesn’t start

It’s any Mercedes owner’s worst nightmare – after pouring time, money, and care into your dream car and making it perfect, it won’t start.

Your Mercedes is a complicated machine, and so it can be difficult to diagnose the problem. Below we’ll go over some of the common reasons your Mercedes might not start and how to get your car back on the road in no time.

Car Battery Issues

A weak battery is an obvious and common culprit when it comes to your car failing to start. But this can happen for a few different reasons.

One is that the battery may be too old. The number of years you can get out of a battery can vary. So by around six or seven years you should start thinking about a replacement.

If your battery is fairly new and isn’t holding a charge well, the short-term fix may be to break out the jumper cables and jump-start your car. This problem is especially common in colder weather.

Your battery is also more likely to lose charge if it rattles around or vibrates in the battery tray as you drive. For some models, the solution to this is to buy battery hold-down straps. These ensure your battery stays in one place and will optimize the charge/discharge rate to avoid battery problems.

Malfunctioning Starters

If the problem isn’t the battery, another good place to look is the starter. A good tell that the problem is your starter is if your car makes a clicking sound when you turn the key in the ignition.

A starter can go bad as it gets older through natural wear and tear, and because of the starter solenoid’s exposure to extremely high temperatures.

Luckily, Adsitco has a huge variety of starters so if this is the problem, we likely have the replacement part you need to get your Mercedes back on the road.

Blown Fuse

Sometimes if your car won’t start, it’s because you have blown a fuse. Fuses blow for a variety of reasons, like being too old, or having too much electrical charge run through them at any given time.

If your car’s electrical system isn’t working how it should, you can try locating the fuse box and opening the cover. Inside you should be able to locate the blown fuse.

In our online parts catalog, Adsitco offers fuses, fuse boxes, and fuse covers to help you fix your Mercedes’ electrical system.
