Getting Your Mercedes Benz Ready for Summer

Summer is just around the corner, and if your Mercedes Benz has been sitting in long-term storage this is the perfect time to get it out and start driving.

Before you hit the road here are a few useful things to check when taking your Mercedes out of storage.

Exterior Check

Especially if you use a car cover in storage, you should give your car a quick but thorough once-over to make sure there is no damage to the paint or any other part of the car’s exterior. Such damage can occur if moisture has been trapped on any part of the car’s body.

Flat Spots

Sometimes when your car has been sitting in one spot for an extended period of time, flat spots can develop on the tires. Flat spots are places on your tire where the tread is worn down or the tire is slightly misshapen. They are common when your car has been sitting in one place for a long time.

Sometimes flat spots are hard to see, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have any. Signs of flat spots include abnormal vibrations or thumping when you drive. If you’re not sure, you can always have a professional examine your tires for flat spots.

One of the easiest ways to avoid them is simply by reparking your car every few weeks so that a different part of the tire touches the ground. It’s also helpful to maintain proper tire pressure while your car is in storage.

Check Fuel Levels

Even if when you put your car in storage it had gas in the tank, you’ll want to check your levels before going out on a drive. That’s because gas evaporates over time, so you’re likely to have less than what you put in before storage.

It’s better to keep this in mind and double-check from the start so you don’t risk running out of gas while you drive the car.

Battery

You’ll also want to check your car’s battery to make sure there is no corrosion on it, and that it still has a charge. Check to make sure the battery light on your dashboard is not on.

If you’re worried about this being a problem, hooking your car battery up to a trickle charger during storage is a great solution.
