Taking Your Mercedes out of Winter Storage -Tips & Suggestions

With winter winding down, you’re almost in the clear to take your beautiful Mercedes-Benz out again for a nice, peaceful cruise this spring. But, before we take the cover off your classic car, let’s go over a few things you should keep in mind and constantly consider when you take your Mercedes-Benz car out of winter storage.

Let’s review some tips to simplify this process.

Tips for Taking Your Car Out of Winter Storage

When the ice has finally melted, and you’re looking to take your Mercedes-Benz out again

for the first time this year, it can be easy to rush things. But, remember, you’ve likely invested money and time into this car, and if you cut corners, you may run into serious issues down the road (puns intended).

Before removing the car cover and turning the ignition, take a moment to go over the following points to ensure you’re keeping your car healthy and constantly ready to go.

Check the Battery and Tires

This one may seem obvious, but a good reminder. Check your battery for any corrosion and ensure the battery light isn’t on when you look at your dashboard. It would likely be okay if you used a battery tender for storage. Likewise, check the tire pressure to ensure it is adequately pumped. Temperature can affect air pressure, so this is important after a long Winter. The tires can develop flat spots when stored for an extended time, so make sure you’re double-checking this.

Look for Fluid Leaks

Check your car’s fluid levels, and be sure to look underneath the hood and under your car for any signs of fluid leaks. If you see anything out of the ordinary, you may want to contact a professional.

Pro Tip: Make sure the fuel tank is full when storing it for the long Winter. Making sure your car has a full tank of gas before winter storage can help you avoid future headaches—also a fuel stabilizer that will prevent gelling of the gasoline to prevent clogging of the injectors.

Check Under The Hood

When looking for leaks under the hood, check for damages or cracks to the wiring and hoses. It is not uncommon for rodents to get under the hood and cause problems to cars.

Let Your Vehicle Warm Up

You are probably eager to hit the gas pedal after examining the interior and exterior of your vehicle. But it’s best to give your Mercedes-Benz a little time to warm up before putting it in gear. Then, let the engine run until you hear a smooth idle. That’s your signal that you’re in the clear and ready to head out.

These are some of the most important aspects of protecting your car after taking it out of winter storage. Don’t rush. Patience and maintenance can extend the life of your Mercedes-Benz.
