When Should I Service My Mercedes-Benz?

Buying a car is always an investment, but Mercedes owners are known to take care of their cars even more so than the average car owner, and why wouldn’t they? The precise German engineering and legacy of luxury that are behind every vehicle warrant a little bit of extra effort and care.

So, how often should you service your Mercedes-Benz to keep it not only road ready but in tip-top shape? Below we’ll go over the best practices for taking care of your car regardless of any issues you may face.

Regular Maintenance

You should always check your driver’s manual for the manufacturer’s service recommendations to ensure you are taking care of your car as well as possible. Still, there are some general guidelines you can follow.

For many cars, service is due about every 5000 to 6000 miles, which will often turn out to be about every six months. At this point, you should get an oil change so that your engine is properly lubricated and doesn’t overheat.

Keeping Records

Any time you get maintenance on your car, make sure to keep detailed records of what kinds of work you have done. This regular maintenance is essential for multiple reasons. First, it helps you track when you are due for further repairs and maintenance. Keeping records means you don’t have to rely solely on memory.

Another reason to keep records is so that it can increase the value of your Mercedes should you decide to sell it. If you can document the money and care you’ve put into your car, it’ll be easier to get that money back on the market.

Finding the Right Mechanic Shop

It’s important that you work with mechanics that are equipped to help you with the specific needs of your car. If you drive a Mercedes-Benz it would be a good idea to work with a mechanic shop specializing in European vehicles so they will know the ins and outs of your car.

If you have an older car, you should make sure your mechanic has experience with that as well. Older cars may need maintenance more regularly as they deteriorate more quickly. Oil and fluid changes have to happen more frequently, and it’s more important to check tires and brakes to make sure your car stays road safe for as long as possible.

Maintenance on older cars may also be more involved. For example, on many older cars, when you replace certain parts, you should also replace others. Replacing a blower motor generally means you should replace the blower resistor. If you replace the transmission, you’ll also want a new torque converter, so debris stuck in the old one doesn’t damage your new transmission.
