Mercedes Benz Lighting FAQ’s:

1. Do Mercedes have led headlights? Nearly every new Mercedes on the market today offers LED headlights as an upgrade option. Most basic packages still come with halogen or xenon headlights.

2. What causes back up lights not to work? The reverse lights not working may be caused by one of several issues: the bulbs may have burned out, there may be a fault in the wiring, bad fuses or relays, etc. You should have the problem diagnosed by a mechanic to determine the cause of the problem.

3. What color are reverse lights when you are backing up? Reverse lights are white in order to differentiate them from the normal red of tail lights and brake lights. This lets people around your vehicle know you are in reverse, and helps to illuminate the area behind you a bit more.

4. What is reverse back up light system? The reverse, or back up, light system are the white portion of your tail light assembly. These lights come on automatically any time the car’s transmission is set to reverse.

5. What is Mercedes daytime running lights? Daytime running lights are usually LED lights on the front of your vehicle that help make you more visible to other drivers during the day. These brighter lights don’t use much power, but help other drivers see you at a distance.

6. How do you turn on daytime running lights on a Mercedes? Typically daytime running lights will come on automatically when you start your vehicle’s engine. If you find your daytime lights are not on, there may be a setting in the display on your dash that must be turned on to activate them.

7. Should I leave daytime running lights on? Daytime running lights should always be on during the day. While not required by law, they do make driving safer for you and other drivers.

8. What causes daytime running lights not working? As with any other lights on your vehicle, your daytime running lights may not be working if the bulbs have burned out, if there is a fault in the wiring, bad fuses or relays, etc. You should have the problem diagnosed by a mechanic to determine the cause of the problem.

9. What are Euro style headlights? Over the years, Mercedes would manufacture different styles of headlights for the US market and European market due to different law requirements. The “Euro Style” lights have become popular in the US market with owners wanting to change the look of their Mercedes to look more like the European model.

10. What type of headlights do Mercedes use? Most base models of Mercedes have halogen headlights. Xenon lamps were used starting in 1995, and LEDs were first used in 2010. Today, all three options are still offered on most models of Mercedes.

11. What are Mercedes adaptive headlights? The adaptive headlight system in a Mercedes will control the direction of the beam to shine around curves while turning as well as raising and lowering the high and low beams automatically.

12. What is side marker light for? The side marker lights on your Mercedes gives an indication to other drivers the positioning of your vehicle when it is difficult to see. The side marker may be part of a corner light attached to the headlight itself or as a standalone light.

13. Are side markers always on? Some side markers are always on, while others will blink along with your turn signal. Newer side markers are often just reflectors and don’t actually have bulbs at all.

14. What color should your side marker lights be? Side markers are almost always amber–or orange–in color. Some Mercedes models have half-amber, half-clear side markers.

15. How do you turn on Mercedes fog lights? The fog lights would be controlled either by the dial that controls your headlights, or a button close by. The fog light symbol looks like a lamp with a wavy line crossing through downward-angled straight lines.

16. Does Mercedes have fog lights? Fog lights became prevalent in the early 90s Mercedes models and have been used until around 2020. Since then, Mercedes has stopped putting separate fog lights on their new vehicles.

17. Why does Mercedes only have one rear fog light? A single rear fog light prevents the drivers behind you from thinking the fog lights are a pair of headlights coming toward them. With one rear fog light, it creates a distinction between the front and rear of the vehicle.

18. How much does it cost to replace a headlight on a Mercedes? We offer headlights that range from $95 to $1995 depending on the type of light, the year and model of the vehicle, and the condition of the light itself. Keep in mind you will need to factor in labor costs for installing the headlight if you are not doing the work yourself.

19. What are the 3 different headlights? There are several different headlight technologies: the most common being Halogen, Xenon/HID, and LED. Halogen look more orange in comparison to the other types, Xenon are more blue, and LED tend to look the most bright white.

20. How do you turn on the interior lights on a Mercedes? The controls for turning on the interior lights can differ based on the year and model, but nearly all models have a switch near the overhead light to turn them on or off. It can be a button, a sliding switch, or a rocker switch that is near the light bulb it controls.

21. How do you change a license plate light bulb on a Mercedes? Different models of Mercedes may vary: older models have screws attaching the cover over the bulb. Newer models can access the light by carefully pulling away the lining of the trunk/rear hatch to access the bulb fixture.

22. What are the lights around the license plate called? The lights that illuminate your license plate are often just referred to as license plate lights or tag lights.

23. How much does it cost to fix a Mercedes tail light? We offer tail lights that range from $35 to $1100 depending on the type of light, the year and model of the vehicle, and the condition of the light itself. Keep in mind you will need to factor in labor costs for installing the tail light if you are not doing the work yourself.

24. What are the 3 lights in tail lights? Cars will have separate bulbs for the tail lights and the brighter brake lights. The third bulb would be the reverse light in the clear-colored section of the tail light.

25. Why is my third brake light not working? Like any other light on your vehicle, your third brake light may not be working if the bulb have burned out, if there is a fault in the wiring, bad fuses or relays, etc. You should have the problem diagnosed by a mechanic to determine the cause of the problem.

26. Which one is the third brake light? The third brake light will be in the center of the vehicle. It can either be mounted inside the rear window, on top of the trunk lid, or at the top of the vehicle above the rear window or hatch.

27. Are you supposed to have 3 brake lights? Since 1986, all vehicles in the US have been required to have a “high-mount” brake light. Tests concluded that a third brake light mounted higher than the tail lights is very effective in preventing traffic collisions.

28. Do Mercedes have turn signals? All vehicles are required to have turn signals. Working turn signal lights and a turn signal switch are required to be legal on the roads.

29. Do side marker lights have to be Amber? Yes, side markers must reflect white or amber light during the day, and must illuminate amber at night. Side marker lights near the rear bumper are allowed to be red.

30. How do I fix my Mercedes turn signal? If one of your turn signal lights is not working, you may just need to replace the bulb. Take not of the size, shape, and wattage to match them with the replacement. If changing the bulb did not fix the problem, there may be a loose connection or another electrical problem causing the issue.
